How cropping works

Every size is produced with a centered cover crop: the image is scaled until it fills the target shape, then the overflow is trimmed equally from both sides. Nothing is stretched. The previews show exactly what each crop keeps.

Because very wide and very tall formats crop a lot, place the important content near the middle of your master image and leave breathing room around it. If a particular crop cuts off something important, crop that version by hand with the image cropper.

Sizes change, check before big launches

Platforms update their recommended dimensions from time to time and display images differently on phones and desktops. The presets follow widely published recommendations, which work well for everyday posting.

Tips for social images

• Start from an image at least 2000 pixels wide so large banners stay sharp.
• Use JPEG at 85 to 90 percent for photos; most platforms recompress uploads anyway.
• Profile pictures appear as circles on many networks, so keep corners empty.
